WASIC Stockdog Trial 11./12.6.2016

allyherd05Our first ASCA Stockdog Trial is over! Although we are not overly happy with Dash’s current training progress, we thought that you have to start trialing some time anyway just to get used to it – and we also have Ally who is working reliably all the time.

The results:
Saturday: Ally 2* Q Started Sheep (so she finished the STDs), Dash 1* Q Started Sheep with a 2nd place and 1* 68 points (missed the second Q by 1 point). We had signed up for ducks as well, but we cancelled the second run because Dash was not very cooperative and also had a piece of wood stuck in his cheek, so we could enjoy visiting an Italian vet (many many thanks to Damiano for going with us – of course nobody spoke English ;)).
Sunday: Dash did not start anymore because he is on antibiotics now. I tried the duck runs with Ally, but she didn’t really have much interest in the ducks as usual and rather barked at me, so I called time on both runs. On sheep I moved her up to Open to get the experience for the next trials. In the first run I was „cleverly“ standing in her way, blocking her from completing obstacle 1. She did really nice work though on obstacle 2 and the center pen, however she did not like the re-pen at all the whole weekend, so we didn’t get any good points for that part in any run. In the second run she absolutely disliked one of the sheep, kept splitting it from the group (she even got a „Careful!“ for that, surely the funniest highlight of the trial for us) and refused to bring it with the others, so I stepped over the handlers line and skipped the center pen. Even though there is still some work to be done for a qualifying score, I am very happy with Ally – she is working really nicely in front of me and does nice flanks when I send her from the handlers line. She will definitely be able to complete Open Sheep!

The Trial:
Voghera, Cowboy’s Guest Ranch: Excellent surroundings, a great arena, many nice people! The weather was excellent apart from Sunday morning – sunny, but not too hot. The sheep were very nice and cooperative; the ducks were running nicely as well, however some had to be split off to make it work. The cows were extremely pretty, but only somewhat cooperative (especially one blonde cow proved to be very unwilling and ruined the run for quite a few starters). Thanks to the whole WASIC team for the great organisation, thanks to everyone who was there!
„Team Austria“ was there with 4 people and 6 dogs, all travelling together in Nina’s party-bus ;). We will definitely be there again next year!
